A joint venture formed by China United Water Group and local companies in Bangladesh signed a contract with the Bangladesh government in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on November 11. The joint venture will invest, construct and operate the water supply and distribution facilities project in the new urban area of Dhaka in the form of public-private partnership (PPP).
The project is the first public-private partnership water project in Bangladesh. Lissa Karim, Minister of public works and housing of Bangladesh, Azad, chief coordinator of sustainable development of prime minister's office of Bangladesh, and Yu Weijing, chairman and President of United Water Group, attended the signing ceremony.
The franchise period of the project is 15 years, and the joint venture will be responsible for the investment, construction and operation of 340000 tons of water supply and distribution facilities in the new town of pubajo in Dhaka City, with a total investment of about 72 million US dollars.
The project includes the construction of 15 deep tube wells, the construction of a total length of 650 km of water transmission and distribution network, the construction of administrative office building, machine repair room, sodium hypochlorite preparation room and other supporting facilities.
