The construction of Qingtongxia Hydropower Station was started in August 1958. The project was closed in February 1960 and the first unit was put into operation in December 1967. The total installed capacity of the hydropower station is 300000 kW and the annual power generation is 1.35 billion kwh. Qingtongxia dam water conveyance project consists of three irrigation channels, namely Qinhan canal, tanglaiqu and Donggao main canal, with an irrigation area of 366700 hectares. The construction of the project has ended the history of water diversion without dam for more than 2000 years in Ningxia irrigation area, and the irrigation area of Yinchuan Plain has finally reached 5.5 million mu.
