Xinhua news agency, Xi'an, October 9 (Xinhua) the Nanhe reservoir of the Yellow River Diversion Project in Yan'an, Shaanxi Province, was successfully impounded a few days ago. This indicates that Yan'an Yellow River Diversion Project has the regulation capacity, the water supply guarantee rate and safety reliability are further improved, and the dream of 500000 people drinking Yellow River water in Yan'an City will become a reality.

According to Yang Zhiqi, Secretary of the Party committee of Yan'an water and environmental protection group, the construction of Yan'an Yellow River Diversion Project was fully started in December 2014; in December 2016, the Yellow River water intake was connected to the Yan'an main pipeline. This project fundamentally breaks the bottleneck of water resources in Northern Shaanxi and is the "lifeline" project to promote the sustainable development strategy of Yan'an. The total investment of the project is 4.513 billion yuan.

The successful impoundment of Nanhe reservoir is mainly composed of dam, diversion spillway tunnel and water conveyance tunnel, with a total storage capacity of 29.3 million cubic meters. The main function of the Yellow River is to serve as a reverse regulation reservoir for water supply to the receiving area when the sediment of the Yellow River is more than 60 kg / m3, the flow is less than 100 m3 / s and the ecological flow is limited. The construction started in June 2015, the dam body project was completed in November 2018, and the upstream dam slope concrete pouring was completed on September 20 this year.

Yang Zhiqi said that at present, the water department is speeding up the construction of Dongchuan water plant supporting the Yellow River water diversion, and is expected to be basically completed next year, when the water supply quality will be further improved. (reporter Jiang Chenrong)
